Senegal has emerged winner of the 2022 Africa cup of nations (AFCON) for the first time in history .

The victory came after a tight goalless battle that ended in penalties where Sadio Mane of Sengal carried the day for his team against Egypt’s Mohamed Salah and finished 4-2 awarding Senegal the championship in Cameroon.

The win has been received with great joy among the Senegalese people with a joyous celebration that can be seen through massive celebration in social media posts.

The president of Senegal Macky Sall has declared today ,Monday 7th February , a public holiday to celebrate the national team’s historic victory .

Sall was scheduled to travel to Comoros but has since cancelled his work trip in order to welcome the national team.

Meanwhile Mane has been named the best player of the tournament .

The National team will be decorated tomorrow at the presidential palace by the President.
